Whalers Go On the Forecheck for Tim Hortons Camp Day

WHALERS TAKE A SHIFT FOR TIM HORTONS CAMP DAY: On Wednesday, six-year-old Zoe Laming of Canton walked confidently into the Tim Hortons location in Livonia with sisters Emma and Sophia (both four-years-old).  Although the sisters may have been hungry, they were seeking out Whalers Danny Vanderwiel and Mitchell Dempsey.

Although Zoe said her favorite Whaler player is Beau Schmitz, it didn't take long for Vanderwiel and Dempsey to connect with the Laming sisters as they worked the counter on behalf of Tim Hortons Camp Day. A few moments after meeting, there were photos, autographs and smiles all around for everyone.

Vanderwiel and Dempsey made a positive impact on everyone they met on Wednesday.

Plymouth veteran Matt Mahalak also worked the Tim Hortons Camp Day, taking a two-hour shift at the Monroe location.

It’s fair to say the Whaler players are excellent ambassadors to the general public, especially with children. Although many of the Whalers are breaking for the summer soon, there are still ways to stay involved:

JOIN US AT THE CANTON PUBLIC LIBRARY:  Matt Mahalak is scheduled to read to children on Wednesday, July 18 and Wednesday August 1 at the Canton Public Library during their Connect Your Summer reading program.

Find out what happened last summer when the Whalers read at the Canton Public Library.

HOCKEY SCHOOLS:  The Whalers are taking applications for their annual summer hockey schools.   Classes start in July and go in either three-day or five-day sessions through August.  Find out more here.

BECOME A WHALERS BILLET: The Whalers continue to look for billets to house their players for the 2012-13 season.  If you live around the Plymouth area and have room in your heart and home to help a young hockey player fulfill his dreams, please contact Joe Stefan or Brian Sommariva at (734) 453-8400.
